Jota leaving Celtic this summer was a major blow for the Hoops. Yes, they did receive a transfer fee believed to be around £25 million. But at the same time, they lost one of their best players and a nailed on starter. Thus, the club will need make sure that they bring in a replacement for the Portuguese winger, who now plays for Al-Ittihad.
Celtic have already been linked with one Brazilian winger in the form of Tete, who has represented Leicester City, Lyon and Shakhtar Donetsk till now. And it looks like the Hoops have their sights on another one, who is still playing his football in Brazil.
The player is question is Ferreira. The 25-year-old winger currently plays for Brazilian Serie A club, Gremio.
As reported by Football Scotland, Celtic have approached Gremio over Ferreira. Early feelers have been put out to gauge the kind of transfer fee that Gremio would want but it is believed the player wants the move.
Celtic make move for Brazilian winger to replace Jota
Ferreira has been an important part of this Gremio team for sure. His numbers for them are solid but not spectacular.
At the same time, Jota did not have a great career at the senior level before arriving at Celtic Park and we all know how incredible he was over the two years that he spent at Parkhead. So it is more about how someone like Ferreira would fit into Brendan Rodgers’ style of play. In his last stint, we saw Scott Sinclair absolutely thrive in a similar role.
It remains to be seen if Celtic ultimately end up making a move for Ferreira this summer. They have already signed Marco Tilio while the signing of Yang Hyun-jun is expected to be made official very soon. But the club need someone with a bit more experience at the senior level to come in and immediately take Jota’s place in the starting XI.
