Brendan Rodgers looks set to have a busy week at Celtic. The pre-season matches in Japan are set to take place and the Hoops have already landed in the Land of the Rising Sun. The club are expected to have a couple of new signings joining soon too, in the form of Yang Hyun-jun and Kwon Hyeok-kyu. Could Tete be another?
Celtic have been linked with Tete in recent weeks. The player is looking for a way out of Shakhtar Donetsk. His contract there runs out at the end of this year but the circumstances mean that he is expected to leave this summer itself.
Tete was on loan at Leicester City from January of this year till the end of the 2022/23 season and worked with Rodgers for a while there, until the manager was shown the exit door in early April. That has led to rumours of a reunion between the two, but this time at Celtic.
With Jota now gone and some questions over whether Liel Abada will remain beyond this summer transfer window, there seems to be a gap on the flank. Marco Tilio was signed earlier this month and the Hoops are expected to confirm the signing of Yang soon, so maybe the position has sufficient cover. But Tete would be a sensational addition to the squad, if he does indeed arrive.
€20 million Tete drops hint amid Celtic transfer rumours
As reported by the Daily Record, Tete posted a picture of an airport runway on his Instagram, as he was getting on a flight to an unknown destination. Crucially, it was accompanied by an emoji representing thought.
With Rodgers and the Celtic squad in Japan themselves, travel and the possibility of linking up with new players certainly comes to mind. It is where they look set to welcome Yang and Kwon to the club. Could they add Tete to the mix as well?
Tete is a very highly rated talent. While he might have struggled at Leicester City, he was very successful at Shakhtar Donetsk and Lyon before that. And the Brazilian winger is rated at a transfer value of around €20 million, but could be available for a fraction of that this summer.
