When Ange Postecoglou left Celtic in order to join Tottenham Hotspur, it was viewed as a massive problem for the club. After all, the Australian had guided them to five trophies in two seasons despite arriving in tough circumstances. The Hoops went out and brought in the best replacement available though, as Brendan Rodgers was appointed for a second stint in the Parkhead hot seat.
The club are expected to back the Northern Irishman in the summer transfer window as well and there have been rumours about a few marquee signings. But for the time being, it looks like they are continuing to bring in highly-rated young talents from across the globe.
The signings of Odin Thiago Holm and Marco Tilio were completed early on in the window. It is believed that a deal for Yang Hyun-jun is over the line as well, even though an official announcement has not been made yet. And now, it looks like Celtic have made their fourth signing of the summer as well.
As tweeted out by Anthony Joseph, Hyeok-kyu Kwon has agreed terms on a long-term deal with Celtic. It is understood that the transfer fee is around £850,000. The Hoops have landed in Japan today, where it’s expected Kwon and Yang will join the squad after signing.
Sky Sports man confirms another Celtic summer signing
Kwon has been playing in the second division of South Korean football. But that has not stopped him from being one of the most highly-rated young talents in his homeland.
He is a defensive midfielder and has already earned comparisons with someone like Rodri. Thus, Kwon will have high expectations surrounding him.
Celtic need a defensive midfielder as well. They signed a few players capable of playing the role during the time of Postecoglou as manager, but it never really worked out.
