The huddle is one of the most recognisable things about Celtic. Some might think that it has always been part of the fabric of the club but that is not the case. In fact, it became a tradition during the run of Tony Mowbray as the Hoops’ captain and has continued from there on forward.

An interesting image has been doing the rounds of social media recently though. That is of Reo Hatate standing pretty much straight during the huddle. And it seems that the Japanese midfielder has never managed to master the tradition despite arriving at Celtic in the 2022 January transfer window.

Of course, that has led to questions from some, about why Hatate chooses to stand up during the huddle. And the answer appears to be much simpler than most would have anticipated.

As reported by 67 Hail Hail, Hatate said to the Celtic View back in November (volume 58, issue, 2, page 19) when asked by supporter Mick Ward about the matter:

"“I prefer to see the speaker’s face.“If my head is down I can’t see his face.“So I keep my body straight and I try to make eye contact with him.”"

So, Hatate has already given an explanation in the past, regarding the matter. And there appears to be a valid reason behind him standing up straight during the huddle.

To be honest, it is hardly a matter of discussion but something that did manage to raise the curiosity of a lot of supporters on social media. It is good that there is an explanation as well.

The bigger worry for Celtic fans right now will be the future of Hatate. He has been linked with a move away from the club for some time now, with several Premier League clubs believed to hold an interest in the Japanese midfielder. Brighton & Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur are two rumoured to be keeping an eye on the situation of the 25-year-old ace.
