Rumours have suggested that Celtic could make one or more marquee signings this summer. That has led to them being linked with several big names in recent times. One that certainly falls under that category is that of Kieran Tierney. The left-back came through the ranks at Parkhead before making the move to Arsenal back in the summer of 2019 for a Scottish record £25 million transfer fee.

Tierney has had his fair share of ups and downs since then. Currently, he is at one of his lowest points though.

The Scottish left-back has lost his place in the starting XI at Arsenal. He found himself sitting on the bench in the majority of the games last season. Thus, it is only natural that he has been linked with a move away from the club this summer. Could a return to Celtic Park be on the cards for him though?

Brendan Rodgers is now back at the club. And the Northern Irish manager certainly knows how to get the best out of Tierney. When asked about the matter, he did not rule out the possibility either.

Rodgers makes Tierney to Celtic claim

As reported by the Daily Record, Rodgers said:

"“There have been lots of players linked with here with me coming back. All I know is Kieran is like myself – we loved our time here. When I spoke to him down the road in the Premier League, every time we met up all we talked about was Celtic. He’s a Celtic man but he’s at a fantastic club in Arsenal. You can just never say never in football. Who knows what might happen?“We wouldn’t be able to buy Kieran for £25m-£30m, that’s for sure, or the figures I see bandied about. I’m pretty sure we wouldn’t be able to pay the huge salary he’s on. However, one can never tell.”"

It remains to be seen how things play out over the coming months and weeks. The fact that Rodgers did not rule out the idea of a move for Tierney immediately might be viewed as a positive sign though.

Let’s see if the club do indeed end up making a loan move for Tierney. It might make sense for all parties at this point of time though.

Celtic would get an excellent player, who already knows everything about the Scottish game. Tierney would get the chance to get his career back on track. And Arsenal would not have to part ways with a top quality player, when his transfer value is at its lowest following a bad season.
