Celtic are one of the biggest clubs in world football. People often fail to recognise the sheer size of the fan base simply because of the fact that they play in the Scottish Premiership, which admittedly is not one of the best leagues in Europe and neither does it have the popularity of a Premier League or a La Liga.
Despite that, Celtic remain a huge club and have fans all over the world. And they have some high-profile names amongst their support as well.
Of course, we know about the usual names like Rod Stewart, Lewis Capaldi, Snoop Dogg and more. Players like Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Paolo Maldini, Wayne Rooney, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and several others have praised the Parkhead atmosphere over the years. And one Manchester United legend appears to be a fan of Celtic as well and wants to be present for a Glasgow Derby one day.
As reported by the Daily Record, Andy Cole said regarding Celtic:
"“I do like Celtic. I’m a fan and always have been. It started with Danny McGrain who I loved as a full-back then it was Paul McStay who I loved as well. Celtic just kind of stuck with me, maybe it’s also the strip which I’ve always liked.“I promise myself every year that I’m going to come up to watch an Old Firm game as I’d love that but as yet it hasn’t happened. Everyone keeps telling me about the atmosphere when Celtic play Rangers so that’s on my bucket list.”"
Manchester United hero admits to being a Celtic fan
Cole came through the youth ranks at Arsenal but found most of his success playing for Manchester United. He scored more than 120 goals for the Red Devils, winning five Premier League titles, a couple of FA Cups and a Champions League as well.
Other than that, he also played for clubs like Manchester City, Newcastle United, Blackburn Rovers, Nottingham Forest and several more. Ultimately, Cole spent his entire playing career in England.
It would have been great to see someone like Cole pull on the Celtic jersey during his playing days. Unfortunately, it never ended up happening. He spent his prime playing for clubs like Newcastle United and Manchester United, and was nowhere near his best in the final years of his career, when a move to Parkhead would have been feasible.
