Celtic were handed a major transfer blow this summer when Jota left the club in order to join Al-Ittihad in a £25 million deal. While the Hoops received a big fee, they also ended up losing arguably their most creative player in the team. The hope was that they would reinvest that figure and bring in some marquee signings in order to strengthen the squad overall.

One player that they were linked with a few days ago is Dominik Livakovic of Dinamo Zagreb. And Celtic fans appeared to be delighted with the rumours.

Joe Hart has done a good job over the past two seasons, but it is clear that he is not the long-term solution between the posts for Celtic. Some have even raised question marks about his recent performances and believe that the club need a new number one come next season.

Someone like Livakovic could have been the long-term solution for Celtic at goalkeeper. But unfortunately, he is headed elsewhere and the Hoops have missed out on a superb opportunity to bring in a top-class player.

As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, Livakovic to Fenerbahce gets the here we go. The deal has been sealed between the clubs for €9 million. Personal terms have also been agreed.

Thus, it looks like Livakovic is on the verge of a move to Fenerbahce. And while €9 million is a big transfer fee for Celtic, shelling that out to sign a ‘can’t miss’ player like the Croatian international would have made a lot of sense.

There have been suggestions that Celtic want a new goalkeeper this summer and Livakovic would have been perfect. Now, it remains to be seen who they end up going for in that position. Hopefully they end up signing someone as good as the Croatian number one.
