Celtic fans were delighted when the club were recently linked with a move for Croatian international number one, Dominik Livakovic. The goalkeeper was arguably his national team’s best performer at the World Cup last year, as they finished third in the competition, exceeding all expectations.

Celtic can certainly do with a goalkeeper like Livakovic. They have been searching for a long-term solution between the posts for years. Joe Hart has done a decent job over the past couple of seasons but he was always viewed as a short-term fix.

Livakovic is 28 years of age though and considered one of the most underrated goalkeepers in all of Europe. With rumours of Celtic making some marquee signings this summer, the Croatian international would certainly fit the bill.

Unfortunately for Celtic though, there seems to be some bad news surrounding the Livakovic transfer race. It appears that he might be headed to Turkey.

Livakovic transfer blow for Celtic

As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, Fenerbahce are closing in on a Livakovic deal. An agreement is in place with the player already, with personal terms sealed.

Thus, it looks like Fenerbahce are Livakovic’s most likely destination at this point of time. It is believed that the Turkish giants have been negotiating to sign him from Dinamo Zagreb for some time now and there appear to have been positive steps in that direction.

It will be interesting to see how things play out in the Livakovic transfer saga. Nothing is over the line yet and Celtic might have an outsider’s chance.

But if Celtic are to have any hope of signing Livakovic, they might have to move quickly. Time is of the essence here and the Croatian international might be the perfect signing for the Hoops. At this point though, a Parkhead switch is looking very unlikely.
