Celtic have already brought in a couple of players this summer in the form of Marco Tilio and Odin Thiago Holm. On the other hand, a move for Yang Hyun-jun also appears to be on the verge of completion. All of them are decent additions to the side and have the potential to be great in the future. But the Hoops will also need to bring in some established names and experience.
Brendan Rodgers will most probably want to bring in a player or two that he has worked with in the past as well. And the club are being linked with one of them.
As reported by Liverpool Echo, Rodgers is keen to bring Jonny Evans to Celtic this summer. He is now out of contract, but Leicester City are believed to be in talks over a new deal for the centre-back as well.
Evans is a proven veteran in the Premier League. But he is 35 years of age. Thus, if Celtic do end up signing, it would be as much for his experience as it would be for his performances on the pitch.
Celtic linked with former Manchester United player
Evans came through the youth ranks at Manchester United and spent several years at the club, before departing Old Trafford. Since then, he has spent time at West Brom Albion as well as Leicester City.
And to be very honest. he has found success everywhere and proven to be a solid defender. Thus, while the idea of signing a 35-year-old centre-back might not be exciting to fans, signing Evans as a free agent might prove to be a shrewd move on the part of the club.
Evans has played extensively under the management of Rodgers over the years and the manager will know exactly what he brings to the table. The 35-year-old has represented the Northern Ireland national team almost a 100 times as well.
