Celtic have a fantastic record in recent years, when it comes to identifying the right talents from around the world. The club have brought in the likes of Kyogo, Jota, Reo Hatate, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Josip Juranovic, Alistair Johnston, Matt O’Riley and many more superb players, just over the past couple of seasons.
Thus, fans would trust them to continue pulling off such masterstrokes. Some fears were there though that the club’s transfer policy could change, as a result of Ange Postecoglou’s exit earlier this summer.
That has not happened. They have signed Odin Thiago Holm and Marco Tilio already this summer, are believed to have agreed a deal to bring in Yang Hyun-jun and now, it looks like they are closing in on another South Korean player as well.
As reported by Sports Chosun and as tweeted out by Korea Football News, Celtic are also set to sign Busan IPark midfielder Kwon Hyeok-kyu.
Celtic set to sign midfielder compared to Rodri
Kwon is one of the most highly rated midfielders in the K-League at this point of time. In fact, he has earned comparisons with Manchester City’s Rodri.
That is high praise indeed. Rodri is arguably the best defensive midfielder in the world right now, as he is coming off of a remarkable campaign with Manchester City in which he won the treble and scored the Champions League-winning goal.
Thus, if Kwon is anywhere near as good as the Manchester City superstar, then Celtic would have pulled off a transfer masterstroke. Of course, a move is not official yet and thus, we have to wait and watch if it indeed transpires or not.
This is not the first time that Celtic have been linked with Kwon either. There were rumours about interest in the Busan IPark midfielder while Postecoglou was still the manager of the Hoops.
