Celtic are expected to strengthen their squad this summer, as they aim to retain all three domestic titles next season and also have their eyes set on making an impact in the Champions League group stages, following the appointment of Brendan Rodgers as the manager of the club for the second time. And one area of the pitch where they might need to improve is goalkeeper.
Currently, the number one between the posts for Celtic is Joe Hart. The English goalkeeper has done a very good job since he arrived in the summer of 2021 from Tottenham Hotspur.
But it is also clear that Hart is not the long-term solution for Celtic in that position. Sooner or later, they will need to find a new number one and they are being linked with a very highly-rated name recently.
The player in question is none other than Dominik Livakovic. He was the hero for the Croatian national team at the World Cup last year and plays for Dinamo Zagreb currently. But the Hoops have been handed a blow in the race to sign the goalkeeper.
Celtic suffer €9 million Livakovic transfer blow
As reported by T24, Fenerbahce have increased their transfer offer for Livakovic to €9 million. The two teams have been negotiating for a while now.
That is a significant transfer fee for sure, especially for Celtic. And it would be interesting to see if they are ready to shell out that kind of a figure for a goalkeeper. There have been rumours of marquee signings though.
Livakovic is 28 years of age and proved his quality at the World Cup. So, if Celtic are to shell out big in order to sign a goalkeeper, he is the type of player to do that for. Of course, there is plenty of competition for his signature.
