Celtic have been linked with quite a few big names in recent times, as rumours have suggested that the club are interested in making a few marquee signings this summer. One player who would fall under that category is Donny van de Beek. The Manchester United midfielder is someone the Hoops are rumoured to hold an interest in.
The Dutchman joined Manchester United in the summer of 2020 after a spectacular run at Ajax. Many felt that he was their replacement for Paul Pogba.
Van de Beek has not been able to establish himself at Manchester United though. There were hopes that the arrival of Erik ten Hag would help get his career back on track, but that has not happened. And now, it is should come as no surprise that he is being linked with a move away from Old Trafford, either on a permanent basis or on loan.
Van de Beek is still a top talent though and Celtic fans were left excited by the rumours. But it looks like a move might not be on the cards after all.
Reliable journalist offers Van de Beek to Celtic news
The latest update on the situation is not a positive one for those hoping the move would happen. As tweeted out by Mark Hendry, there has never been any contact between Celtic and Van de Beek’s representatives.
Now, to be honest, there would be a lot of risk involved in making a move for Van de Beek, even if bringing him in was possible. Firstly, he has not performed at a top level for three years and even failed to impress while out on loan at Everton. Secondly, he has been struggling badly with injuries.
A few marquee signings would surely be nice. But there are doubts about whether someone like Van de Beek would be able to live up to the hype if brought in.
