Nobody would have expected Kieran Tierney to be linked with a return to Celtic this summer, even though he is expected to leave Arsenal. It was in 2019 that he had left his boyhood club in order to join the Premier League giants in a Scottish record £25 million move. A lot has happened since then, and currently, the left-back finds himself sitting on the bench.
Thus, it is believed that Tierney will be leaving Arsenal this summer, whether on a permanent basis or on loan. And the idea of a return to Celtic Park has been floated in the media.
Most fans don’t believe that pulling it off would be possible for Celtic, due to a number of factors. But then, many would have said the same thing regarding Brendan Rodgers’ return. Guess who sits on the Parkhead hot seat right now.
In fact, it looks like the Scottish left-back is very much open to the idea of returning to his boyhood club. As reported by the Mirror (via Daily Record), Tierney is open to a return to Celtic and would be willing to take a significant cut in his salary to do so. It’s also believed that Rodgers is keen to be reunited with the player.
Celtic offered superb Tierney transfer boost
Let’s see how things turn out in the Tierney transfer saga. It is hard to imagine him wearing the Hoops come next season, but not completely impossible. Never say never in football.
Rumours have suggested that Celtic could be looking to make a few marquee signings in the summer. And Tierney would certainly fit the bill.
Of course, signing Tierney on a permanent basis would be impossible for Celtic, considering that he is rated at a transfer fee around £35 million. But a loan deal might make sense for all parties involved.
It would give Celtic a wonderful player for the season. It would give Tierney the chance to get his career back on track, after struggling to get into the team last season. And good performances at Parkhead might raise his transfer value and interest in his signature, which would be good news for Arsenal.
