Rumours have suggested that Celtic could try to pull off a few marquee signings this summer in order to strengthen Brendan Rodgers’ squad, as they look to defend their treble and also make an impact in the Champions League. And one player that they have been linked with lately is Manchester United midfielder, Donny van de Beek.

The Dutchman arrived at Manchester United in the summer of 2020. He has never been able to find his feet at Old Trafford though.

He spent a failed half-a-season loan spell at Everton in the 2021/22 campaign as well. There were hopes that the arrival of Erik ten Hag at Manchester United would help revive Van de Beek’s career but that has not happened either. Unsurprisingly, he is being linked with a move away this summer.

The Dutchman has not been helped by his recent injury history though. He has dealt with more than one long-term blows over the past couple of seasons. And the latest update surrounding his fitness should worry Celtic, if they are indeed eyeing a move for Van de Beek this summer.

As reported by Manchester Evening News, Van de Beek expressed his happiness at being involved in team training last week. But this week the Dutchman is following an individual programme, as he nears a return from a knee injury that he sustained over seven months ago.

Van de Beek is without doubt a quality player when on top of his game. He more than proved that during his time at Ajax.

Unfortunately, his recent injury problems should be something for Celtic to consider before making any attempts to sign Van de Beek from Manchester United. Is he even capable anymore of producing the football, that he did during his days at Ajax?
