Celtic have two great options up top right now in the form of Kyogo and Oh Hyeon-gyu. The Japanese forward has been the main man for the Hoops in recent times, and found the back of the net on 34 occasions last season. On the other hand, the South Korean striker has impressed as well, even though he has mostly made appearances off the bench since arriving in January.
It will be very interesting to see how Oh develops this season and whether he is able to challenge Kyogo for the starting spot. He is certainly a big talent. But before him, Celtic were heavily with another South Korean striker.
Cho Gue-sung was a standout performer for the South Korea national team at the World Cup last year. And Celtic were rumoured to hold a serious interest in signing him. So much so that it is believed that they even made a transfer bid for him
Ultimately, a move did not transpire and Cho stayed on at Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors. But he has made the move to Europe this summer.
£2.6 million Celtic target joins FC Midtjylland
There were some rumours that Celtic could try to sign the South Korean international once again this summer but that did not happen. On the other hand, FC Midtjylland have announced the signing of Cho on Twitter.
It will be very interesting to see how Cho performs in Europe, even though he might not have ended up at Celtic Park. The Hoops should not be disappointed though, as Oh is a top talent in his own right and younger.
Celtic could do with another striker, especially with another campaign in the Champions League group stage coming up. It was their finishing which let them down the last time around. Let’s see if they try to sign another centre-forward in this window.
