Celtic have already seen Jota leave Parkhead this summer, in a £25 million move to Al-Ittihad. The Portuguese winger departing is a major blow without doubt and he will need to be replaced. Now, another club hero has headed out of the exit door as well, but his departure is not as high profile and will not be cause for a lot of worry.
Conor Hazard was the Celtic hero in the Scottish Cup final back in 2020, which secured the Quadruple Treble for the Hoops. The goalkeeper did not get too many chances after that though.
Despite an impressive loan spell with HJK Helsinki as well, he found himself far down the goalkeeping pecking order at Celtic Park. And now, he has decided to leave the club on a permanent basis.
As reported by Plymouth Argyle on their official website, Hazard has joined the club. He has signed a three-year contract.
Another Celtic player completes Parkhead exit this summer
Plymouth Argyle have recently been promoted to the English Championship. Thus, it is certainly a good place for Hazard to take the next step.
At this stage of his career, Hazard clearly needs to be playing regular football and he was not going to get that at Celtic Park. As a result, leaving the club was certainly the right decision for him.
Despite impressing when on the pitch, Hazard was not given a lot of chances at Celtic. Now, it is time to see what he can do, now that he has left the club on a permanent basis.
Hazard came through the youth ranks at Celtic, having joined in 2014. And while he might not have played a lot for the club, he was certainly the hero on one of its most historic nights. We can only wish him the best of luck for what is to come.
