Rumours have been doing the rounds that Celtic could be making some marquee signings this summer in order to make sure that Brendan Rodgers’ team is competitive in the Champions League. It will be interesting to see how that plays out but they are certainly being linked with some big names for sure.
It was not too long ago that the idea of a loan move for Scott McTominay was floated in the media. And now, it looks like another Manchester United midfielder could be in their sights.
As reported by 90min, Celtic hold an interest in Donny van de Beek. Manchester United would prefer a permanent transfer but a loan looks more likely as it stands. Sevilla, Nice, Ajax, Feyenoord, Wolves, Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace, Inter Milan, AS Roma and AC Milan are also being linked with the Dutchman though.
Van de Beek was one of the most highly-rated young talents in world football when he was signed by Manchester United in the summer of 2020 in a transfer deal worth around £40 million. But things have not gone his way since then.
Celtic interested in signing Manchester United player
Van de Beek failed to make an impact in his debut season with Manchester United and has struggled to get into the playing XI since then. His half-a-season loan spell at Everton was not much better either.
There were hopes that Erik ten Hag could revive his career, considering the success the two enjoyed together at Ajax. But that has not happened, and the midfielder has not been helped by his recent injuries.
Thus, he clearly needs a change of scenery and Celtic could be a great place for him to get his career back on track. A loan move would make sense for the Hoops as well, although there will be some risk as well considering Van de Beek’s recent form as well as injury history.
