Celtic had a fantastic record of identifying and signing players during the time of Ange Postecoglou as the manager of the club. And fans will be hoping for that run to continue even though the Australian has left Parkhead to in order to join Tottenham Hotspur. The Hoops have brought in Brendan Rodgers as his replacement though, a proven success in the Scottish game.
One of the targets that Celtic failed to sign during Postecoglou’s stint at Parkhead was Cho Gue-sung. The South Korean international was heavily linked with a move to Glasgow in the January transfer window, following an impressive World Cup campaign.
Some rumours suggested that they had launched a transfer bid for Cho as well, but ultimately, he stayed on at Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors. On the other hand, Celtic did sign another South Korean striker in the form of Oh Hyeon-gyu, who has shown glimpses of brilliance already, despite mostly being used as an option off the bench.
While Cho might not have moved to Europe in the winter, it looks like he is closing on a move this summer. His destination might be a bit unexpected though.
£2.6 million Celtic target set to join FC Midtjylland
As tweeted out by Mike McGrath, Cho has a deal in place to sign for FC Midtjylland in Denmark worth around £2.6 million. Watford, Blackburn Rovers and Leicester City also appeared to have an interest in him though.
When a move to Celtic did not work out earlier this year, there had been rumours about the club going back for him in the summer. But there have been no such links to the South Korean forward in recent months, as it looks like plans might have changed.
Celtic could still do with another striker though. They have two great options in the form of Kyogo and Oh. But another choice will only help, especially in the Champions League.
