When Celtic signed Joe Hart from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2021, many fans were disappointed with the move and understandably so. The Englishman had not been a starting goalkeeper for a few years at that point of time and most people believed that he was well past his best.
Hart has proven himself over the past couple of seasons at Celtic though. He has been the first-choice goalkeeper since the day he arrived, playing his part in all five of their trophies during that period of time.
But with Ange Postecoglou leaving this summer, there were always going to be doubts about the future of Hart. Brendan Rodgers has come in to replace the Australian in the Parkhead hot seat and the Northern Irishman will surely have his own vision and plans.
There might be some bad news for Hart. As reported by Football Scotland, Celtic’s recruitment meetings have shown the goalkeeping position as an area in particular where the Hoops are hoping to add to their ranks in the coming weeks.
Celtic transfer rumour seems bad news for Hart
Other than Hart, Celtic also have Scott Bain and Benjamin Siegrist in their ranks. Conor Hazard is rumoured to be close to sealing a permanent exit.
It remains to be seen which goalkeeper Celtic end up going for this summer. But one would expect him to be someone who can come in and immediately establish himself as the number one between the posts.
That might be easier said than done though. In the summer of 2020, they had tried to bring in a long-term goalkeeper in Vasilis Barkas and we all know how that turned out. As a result, even if a new number one is brought in this summer, it would be important to keep someone like Hart around in case things don’t work out.
