Celtic have made a bright start to the summer transfer window, by already completing deals to sign Odin Thiago Holm from Valerenga and Marco Tilio from Melbourne City FC. More additions are to be expected though, especially when you consider the arrival of Brendan Rodgers, the retirement of Aaron Mooy and the very likely departure of Jota.
One of the players that Celtic have been linked with in recent times is Yang Hyun-jun of Gangwon FC. The Hoops are believed to have even submitted an offer for the South Korean player.
Gangwon FC are currently near the bottom of the K-League table though. As a result, they appear to be reluctant to let one of their star players leave in the middle of the season.
Yang clearly wants to make the move to Celtic though. In fact, it looks like he is ready to even give up his salary in order to make the switch possible. As reported by The Scottish Sun, he said:
"“I want to go to Celtic this summer. I hope Gangwon will allow me to transfer.“If the transfer fee isn’t enough, I’ll even give my salary.”"
Celtic transfer target pushing hard for Parkhead move
Thus, it is pretty clear that Yang wants to make the move to Celtic this summer. On the other hand, it is also not hard to understand why Gangwon FC might be reluctant to part ways with him, when the club are in a difficult position in the league.
So, it will be very interesting to see how things play out. One can only hope that Celtic are able to bring in Yang in the near future.
Yang might not be enjoying a great season, with his team struggling, but he is considered as one of the biggest talents in South Korean football right now. Celtic have done a remarkable job in recent years when it comes to identifying talent. Thus, the fans will trust the club’s judgement.
