Amid all the focus on possible exits from Celtic, there is still plenty of activity on incoming transfers. The club have been recently linked with exciting Swiss prospect, Fabian Rieder. The youngster is only 21 years of age but he is highly rated and already has a lot of experience playing at a high level with BSC Young Boys.
He has played at all levels since joining BSC Young Boys in 2017. That includes six Champions League matches, with another eight in the Europa League. And Rieder even has a stunning goal at Old Trafford to his name.
Rieder also has good international experience having featured for Switzerland at multiple youth levels. He made his full international debut in the World Cup last November against Cameroon and playing in their match with Brazil as well.
Thus, someone like Rieder could be a solid addition to this Celtic team. And a move could see the Hoops shatter their transfer record.
Celtic hopes of signing Rieder handed boost
As reported by Glasgow Times, the BSC Young Boys’ Sports Director, Christoph Spycher, has said regarding the situation of Reider:
"“Fabian Rieder and I have come a long way together and we maintain a trusting working relationship.“I know Fabian will make the right decision for himself when it comes to it.“Sometimes patience is required in such cases.“But I am convinced that his future will be abroad in the short or medium term. He has the quality to play in a top league. I’m 100 per cent sure of that.”"
Brendan Rodgers is believed to be an admirer of Rieder and Celtic are rumoured to be keen on bringing him to Glasgow this summer. His considerable experience at a high level despite his youth combined with his unquestionable potential should make him a great fit for the Hoops.
At the same time though, it is believed that it could take a transfer fee around £16 million to sign Rieder. Thus, Celtic must be absolutely convinced about the Swiss wonderkid before even making an attempt to bring him to Parkhead. The club’s current record signing is Odsonne Edouard, who they shelled out a £9 million fee for. The Scottish record is Tore Andre Flo’s £12 million move to Rangers in 2000.
