Celtic are on the verge of suffering a massive blow, as it looks like Jota is on his way out of the club this summer in order to join Al-Ittihad. While nothing is official yet, it only seems like a matter of time before the move takes place. The Portuguese winger has been a starter for the Hoops ever since he arrived in the summer of 2021, so it will be very difficult to replace him.
It is believed that the club will pocket a transfer fee around £25 million for Jota’s move though. And the fans will be hoping to see the majority of that being reinvested into the squad.
Some interesting transfer rumours have been doing the rounds of social media over the past days. And if accurate, Celtic might be shatter their own as well as the Scottish transfer record this summer.
Celtic have been heavily linked with a move for Swiss talent, Fabian Rieder. He currently plays for BSC Young Boys and it is believed that it will take a transfer fee around £16 million to sign him.
Celtic could break record by signing £16 million talent
Rieder is just 21 years of age but he has already impressed with his performances at the top level. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 9 goals and provided 11 assists in 43 appearances last season.
Rieder has also represented the Switzerland national team on a few occasions. And he is without doubt one of the biggest talents in the country right now.
Should Celtic shell out a £16 million transfer fee to sign Rieder though? Their current record is the £9 million that they shelled out to sign Odsonne Edouard. The Scottish record is Tore Andre Flo’s £12 million move to Rangers in 2000.
Of course, a move for Rieder will come with a lot of risk. But at the same time, it will excite Celtic fans about the direction the club are moving in.
