Celtic have been handed a blow recently, as it looks like Jota is set to leave the club. Several reliable sources have suggested that the Portuguese winger is closing in on a move to Al-Ittihad. There have even been rumours which suggest that the Hoops will pocket a transfer fee north of £20 million, while the player will sign a life-changing contract.

It is not hard to see why all parties might be interested to make the move happen. So, do not be surprised to see Jota complete his Parkhead exit very soon.

On the other hand, Celtic will need to sign a replacement for him. Jota has been a key starter for the club since his arrival in the summer of 2021.

And while most fans would be keen for them to go out and spend big, a very good solution might be available on a free transfer. Someone who has already proven his worth in a Celtic jersey.

Mohamed Elyounoussi spent a couple of seasons on loan at Celtic and often does not get the credit that he deserves for his performances in the Hoops. Most probably due to the fact that his best displays came in the terrible 2020/21 campaign.

Elyounoussi was one of the shining lights in that season. But it was not enough for Celtic to even be competitive.

Overall though, Elyounoussi is a solid player. And he is available on a free transfer this summer after his contract with Southampton ran out. Thus, bringing him back might be a bit of a no-brainer under the current circumstances.

There would be very little risk involved in signing Elyounoussi as a free agent. And if Celtic are not satisfied, they can go out and sign another winger, reinvesting the fee they’ll receive from Jota’s exit.
