Neil Lennon feels Celtic player is not good enough for Tottenham
By StevieMac
Some Celtic fans have been worried that the club’s best players might be tempted by summer moves away from Parkhead. And it has been rumoured that a few could follow former Hoops manager, Ange Postecoglou, to Tottenham Hotspur. That list includes the name of Kyogo Furuhashi.
With another outstanding season behind him, Kyogo is in a good position. His 34 goals in the previous campaign for the Hoops saw him being the top scorer in the Scottish Premiership and he was named the league’s Player of the Year.
That has all brought extra focus on Kyogo and no doubt helped his return to the Japan national team’s squad earlier this month. It also brings him to the attention of other clubs though, which could be a problem for the Hoops. And of course, Postecoglou knows all about the striker already.
Neil Lennon though has an alternative view of Kyogo and a potential move to Tottenham Hotspur. As reported by The Scottish Sun, he told the Daily Mail:
"“I have my doubts, yes.“I don’t think for one minute that he could replace Harry Kane, for example, if that was to be the case.“He’s a good player. I like his style.“I’m just not sure he could play consistently at the highest level in the Premier League on a week-to-week basis.“The other thing is that you’ve got Kane there at the minute, you’ve got [Heung-Min] Son, [Dejan] Kulusevski, Richarlison.“These are world-class players that he’d need to break into if he goes to Spurs.“I think he could play in the Premier League but maybe just not at the top end at the minute.”"

It definitely would be a huge step up to fill Kane’s boots at Tottenham Hotspur, if he does move away. And as Lennon points out there are other top forwards at the Premier League club.
It’s often hard for a goal scorer to do more than score and link up the forward play. Kyogo has done both very well and adapted easily to the move from Japan to Scotland. He definitely has potential to play at the top level. But Lennon may be correct to question whether a switch to Tottenham Hotspur would be a good move for him.
Fortunately, Kyogo himself seems focussed on next season with Celtic and the chance to feature in the Champions League. That would give him another excellent platform to show his goal scoring skills at the very top level. Let’s hope he stays.
