Celtic have been the dominant team in Scottish football for over a decade now. They have won 11 of the last 12 league titles. They have won five trebles over the last seven campaigns. And they are coming off of winning a domestic treble as well. Thus, it is the Rangers who have a lot of catching up to do.

While the exit of Ange Postecoglou would have given the Ibrox fans some hope, that has been followed by Celtic appointing Brendan Rodgers as manager of the club. In his first stint at Parkhead, the Northern Irishman won all seven domestic trophies available to him, which included a couple of trebles and an Invincible season.

Thus, the Rangers will have a mountain to climb next season. And one player that they will be pinning their hopes on is Todd Cantwell.

The English midfielder arrived at Ibrox from Norwich City earlier this year. And he is not a popular figure amongst Celtic fans to say the very least.

Cantwell recently took a dig at Chris Sutton on Twitter and the Celtic hero has come back with a superb reply:

Of course, the Rangers finished the previous season trophyless. And it remains to be seen if they can change that in the upcoming campaign.

Celtic will certainly be doing their best to retain all three of their trophies and hopefully will try to make a run in Europe as well. That is rumoured to one of Rodgers’ targets this time around.

Can the Rangers stop Celtic next season? Time shall tell. The only thing that Cantwell is doing with his actions on social media though is putting more pressure on himself and his teammates to deliver next season. Otherwise, it will not take long for the Ibrox fans to have a change in opinion.
