It has not been long since Todd Cantwell joined the Rangers, from English Championship side Norwich City. But it is safe to say that the midfielder is not a popular figure amongst the Celtic supporters and he has not done himself any favours with a dig he took at Chris Sutton on Twitter recently.

Cantwell has been able to impress the Rangers supporters since arriving, even though the Ibrox club did finish trophyless last season. But he has come under some criticism as well.

One pundit who has criticised him in the not too distant past is Sutton. And it looks like Cantwell is not a fan of the former Celtic striker.

When Football Scotland recently asked who the best pundit in Scottish football is, Cantwell quote tweeted:

It is no surprise that Cantwell’s comment caught the attention of both set of Glasgow fans. While the Rangers supporters were clearly happy with the midfielder, Celtic fans not so much.

At the end of the day, it will all come down to performances on the pitch. The fact of the matter is that Cantwell is yet to taste title success in Scotland. Let’s see if that changes next season.

At the same time, it is worth pointing out that Celtic have Brendan Rodgers back in charge now, after Ange Postecoglou left for Tottenham Hotspur, days after winning the treble with the Hoops. The Northern Irish manager did win all seven domestic titles available to him in his first stint at Parkhead.

So, even though Postecoglou has left, the Rangers might have a mountain to climb next season if they are to win trophies. As for Cantwell, he is only increasing the pressure on himself and his team, with these public comments made on social media.
