Kieran Tierney set the Scottish record when he left Celtic in the summer of 2019 in order to join Arsenal in a £25 million transfer move. Since then, the Scot has had an up and down time in London. And at this point of time, he finds himself at the bottom, struggling for game time and sitting on the bench for most matches.

As a result, Tierney is expected to depart Arsenal this summer. Newcastle United are believed to be the favourites to sign him but a deal has not materialised yet. And in recent weeks, the Magpies have been linked with alternate targets.

The idea would sound almost impossible. But it looks like a return to Celtic Park this summer, on a loan deal, has not been ruled out.

As reported by The Scottish Sun, Tierney won’t close the door on a return to Celtic if Brendan Rodgers looked for a summer reunion with the left-back. A permanent deal is pretty much impossible but a season-long loan could yet be a possibility if both a substantial loan fee and compromise over wages can be agreed upon with Arsenal and the player himself.

Tierney was considered as a future Arsenal captain not too long ago. But he has slipped down the pecking order in recent times and is currently an option on the bench in Mikel Arteta’s team.

Thus, a summer exit looks like the most likely route for him. Now, it remains to be seen how things play out over the coming weeks and months.

Still, the hopes of Tierney returning to Celtic this summer are slim at best. Never say never in football though. The Hoops already have a couple of left-backs in their ranks in the form of Greg Taylor and Alexandro Bernabei.
