One of the big fears that Celtic fans had with Ange Postecoglou leaving was that it would lead to the club moving away from the transfer strategy that had brought them so much success in the past couple of years. In his previous stint at Parkhead, Brendan Rodgers had mostly brought players in from down south or the Premiership itself.

This time around, it looks like things could be different though. The club have already completed the signing of Odin Thiago Holm from Norwegian club, Valerenga. They have been linked with multiple players from the K-League. And now, it appears that they are closing in on the signing of an Australian winger.

Rumours broke out recently that Celtic have agreed a deal with Melbourne City FC for Marco Tilio. The only hurdles now are agreeing personal terms and passing the medical.

Tilio is one of the biggest talents in Australian football right now. And Celtic might be about to pull off the transfer masterstroke of the summer.

Tilio might not be a name that most Celtic fans are familiar with, but he looks like an incredible talent for sure. He is capable of playing all across the forward line and even in midfield if the situation calls for it.

Tilio is someone who looks at his best playing on the right flank though and some have compared his style to that of Phil Foden. On Twitter, AussieScout describes him as ‘probably Australia’s best tight-space dribbler’.

At 21 years of age, there are certainly areas of his game that he needs to get better at and that will come with experience. But the upside is remarkable and Celtic might have discovered another gem here. Let’s hope they are able to get a deal over the line.
