Most Celtic fans recognised that Brendan Rodgers was the best option available out there for the club to replace Ange Postecoglou. And that is the reason why there was not a lot of negativity around his return, despite the circumstances surrounding his move to Leicester City in early 2019, which ended his first stint in the Parkhead hot seat.

Rodgers is a proven winner though. Not only did he win seven trophies with Celtic, but he delivered silverware at Leicester City as well as several European qualifications.

Thus, there is very little doubt that Rodgers is a superb manager. But he still has fences to mend with a section of the fanbase for sure.

Upon Rodgers’ return, Green Bridge shared picture of an old banner from the time he left, which read, ‘You traded immortality for mediocrity. Never a Celt, always a fraud.’

It looks like Rodgers does not view his stint at Leicester City as ‘mediocre’ by any means. As reported by Football Scotland, the Northern Irishman said:

"“I was aware of that. For me, I love the club and the supporters, and you will have critics. With the greatest respect, I don’t think winning a club the FA Cup for the first time in their [Leicester’s] history was mediocre, or taking them into Europe when they’d never been and having three of their best four finishes in the league.“I don’t think it’s mediocre but everyone is entitled to their opinion.”"

To be very honest, while his run might not have ended well, Rodgers did an top job at Leicester City all things considered. He won the FA Cup and the Community Shield with them, something that not many people would have expected when he joined the club. He also got them into Europe on multiple occasions.

And while he might have had a hand in their relegation season too, a lot of that was down to the squad being allowed to stagnate more than anything else. One cannot forget that Rodgers was being linked with teams like Barcelona and Manchester City not too long ago. Celtic have gotten a top manager on their hands here and it is time to back him, for the best of the club.
