With Ange Postecoglou leaving the club in order to join Tottenham Hotspur, they were fears that Celtic would miss out on some top talent from the J League and K League moving forward. But it looks like the Hoops are continuing to keep a close eye on the Asian leagues, even with Brendan Rodgers in the Parkhead hot seat.

It was just in January that Celtic signed Oh Hyeon-gyu from Suwon Samsung Bluewings. And now, it looks like another South Korean player is in their sights and they have submitted an offer for him.

As tweeted out by Jason Lee, according to Korean media, Celtic have sent an official transfer offer to Gangwon FC for Yang Hyun-Jun. The offer is believed to be “significant and final” as the Hoops await the South Korean club’s response. The player is eager to move to Parkhead.

The interest in another winger is to be expected this summer. Liel Abada has been heavily linked with a move away from the club for months now. Although, it remains to be seen if the arrival of Rodgers changes things regarding his situation and future.

Celtic being linked with Yang is interesting to be honest because he has not put up big numbers this season while playing for Gangwon. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 1 goal and provided 1 assist in 19 appearances in this campaign.

He was excellent last season though and there is no question about his potential. It is also worth pointing out that Yang turned 21 years of age just last month, so some level of inconsistency is to be expected.

Yang is an exciting talent who needs to polish up his game further. But if he can reach his full potential, he can be a serious player in the future.
