Brendan Rodgers knows exactly what it takes to succeed at Celtic Park. His return to the club for a second stint might not be universally liked by the fans, especially considering the manner in which he left the last time around. But most believe that the Northern Irishman was the best manager available to the Hoops.
Not only is Rodgers a proven winner at Celtic but he delivered after leaving as well. Leicester City won the FA Cup and the Community Shield under his management, while also challenging for Champions League spots on two occasions.
Thus, there is no doubt that Rodgers is a phenomenal manager. And if he can get things right once again, then Celtic’s dominance over Scottish football might continue for the upcoming years as well.
Graeme Souness does sound worried about what Rodgers’ return to Celtic will mean for the Rangers, a club he played for as well as managed to great success a long time back. As reported by the Daily Record, he said while speaking on talkSPORT:
"“I tell you what it does, obviously my focus on the other side of Glasgow. This is the worry for me as a Rangers man, that he has asked for assurances on budgets.“What he is going to spend, how much he can spend. I am sure if Brendan had sat he would have got job offers back in England, maybe not the Premier League but certainly top end Championship.“So it worries me slightly he has gone back for that fact alone that promises have been made to him about budgets and how much he can spend. That ain’t good news for Rangers.”"
Rangers hero admits fear over Rodgers’ Celtic return
It remains to be seen what it means for the Rangers, but for Celtic, it could be great news. Rumours have suggested that not only is Rodgers looking to succeed in domestic competitions but in Europe as well and that he will be handed a big transfer budget in the summer in order to do that.
Rodgers won all seven domestic trophies available to him the last time, including a couple of trebles and an Invincible season. Success in Europe was much harder to come by even though there were some bright spots here and there, including positive results against Manchester City.
Since then, Rodgers has gained a lot more experience of managing in Europe, even if not at the Champion League. And he has come up against some incredible managers in the Premier League and won, like Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel. Thus, the Northern Irishman is expected to be a much better manager now than the one who left Parkhead in 2019.
