The exit of Ange Postecoglou has put Celtic in an interesting situation. Not only have questions been raised about the future of the players, most of whom were brought in during the time of the Australian in the hot seat, but that of the coaches as well. Of course, we all heard the rumours about John Kennedy moving to Tottenham Hotspur and fortunately, it did not happen.
The good news is that Celtic replaced Postecoglou with another top quality manager in the form of Brendan Rodgers. And the Northern Irishman is someone who coaches would like to work with and learn from as well.
Kennedy is not the only one who could have potentially left Celtic this summer. Gavin Strachan seems to be drawing interest from down south as well.
As reported by The Scottish Sun, Strachan has turned down the chance to become Shrewsbury Town manager in order to stay at Celtic. The English League One were prepared to offer him a lucrative deal but he wants to part of Rodgers’ coaching team.
Celtic man rejects lucrative offer from Shrewsbury Town
Strachan is someone who has received criticism from Celtic fans in the past, especially after the disaster that was the 2020/21 campaign. It was also the season in which he joined the club in a coaching capacity.
Back then, most fans would have been happy to see him depart. But Strachan has certainly proven himself since then.
He was a big part of Postecoglou’s coaching team, who did not arrive with any backroom staff of his own. He was so impressive that rumours suggested that the Australian wanted him at Tottenham Hotspur as well but that did not materialise.
It is quite clear that Strachan is very highly rated at Celtic. And hopefully he will make a positive contribution as part of Rodgers’ coaching team.
