Clearly there are some mixed views about the return of Brendan Rodgers as Celtic manager. And it is fine for people to speak out about their individual opinions about the appointment. But, it is also time to back the Northern Irishman for the best of the club, no matter how his first stint might have ended.

Charlie Nicholas was a Celtic hero when he played for the club. Since he left, he has not been the most popular figure amongst the fans though. And now, it looks like he is not a supporter of the decision to bring back Rodgers.

He perhaps isn’t entirely happy at the return of Rodgers. But he does admit that in football terms it’s the right decision.

Nicholas does seem to take an issue with Dermot Desmond instead. As reported by The Scottish Sun, the former Celtic player wrote in his column in the Scottish Daily Express:

"“I have an issue with Desmond. He’s never at any games unless the club is going to lift some silverware. It doesn’t sit well with me.“He had a face like thunder at the Scottish Cup final because he knew Postecoglou was leaving for Tottenham. He doesn’t appear to react well when someone lets him down. He employed Postecoglou on big money to run the football side – it was a new Celtic and this was how things were going to be done.“Yet, all that has been ripped up and he has gone back for old flame Rodgers. I think Postecoglou got to him.“I don’t have a problem with reappointing Rodgers. Football-wise it is the right move but it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.”"

Nicholas perhaps overlooks the fact that Desmond heads a business empire and has many interests to look after, which keep him busy. Also, most close to the club felt a strong sense of disappointment when Postecoglou left, as they did when Rodgers had exited previously.

Desmond does appear to have ensured swift action was taken to secure a new manager. Although it seemed to drag on in many fans’ minds, Rodgers was announced just two weeks after Postecoglou left. That is impressive. As is the fact that the club have brought in someone who was being linked with teams like Manchester City and Barcelona not too long ago.

Sure, all the fans are wondering how they will respond to Rodgers over the weeks and months ahead. But one thing is certain, we will all back the club as we head into a new and exciting season.
