The wait for Brendan Rodgers to be announced as the new manager of Celtic has continued this morning as well. But with some of the most reliable sources in football stating that the deal is as good as done, there is not much for the fans to be worried about. A repeat of the Eddie Howe saga is unlikely and the Northern Irishman is expected to be the one in the Parkhead hot seat come next season.
Now, some fans might not be delighted with the idea of Rodgers coming back for a second stint at the club. There is no doubt about his quality as a manager but the manner in which he left the last time around, in the middle of the season in order to join Leicester City, left a bitter taste in the mouths of many.
Rodgers coming back might be the best thing for the club though. He certainly looks like the best option available right now. Experienced, winning managers are hard to find.
Rodgers certainly has the backing of one of his former star players, Luis Suarez, to be a success at Celtic once again. As reported by the Daily Record, the Uruguayan said:
"“Celtic already have some very good players – but under Brendan they can go to the next level if they listen to him. For me he is one of the best coaches in Europe and it is no surprise to me that he has got back into the game so quickly.“He loves the game – he is passionate about not only winning but playing an attractive style of football. I am glad that he will be back coaching in the Champions League – because that for me is where he belongs.”"
Suarez makes Rodgers to Celtic claim
Rodgers worked with Suarez at Liverpool. And it was at that time that the Uruguayan was transformed into one of the best players in the world, almost guiding the Reds to the Premier League title.
Thus, Suarez will know about Rodgers’ quality very well. And one has to think that the Northern Irishman has improved further as a manager since that time.
He had his spectacular spell at Celtic as well, which produced seven trophies. And while it might not have ended well, his time at Leicester City has to be considered a success. Not only did he win the FA Cup and the Community Shield, but had them competing for Champions League spots as well, finishing fifth twice.
