Mohamed Elyounoussi gives direct reply to Celtic return question
Mohamed Elyounoussi spent a couple of seasons on loan at Celtic from Southampton a few years back and showed real flashes of brilliance during that period of time. He was one of the few bright spots in the 2020/21 campaign and many felt that the Norwegian international deserved more chances that he got at Parkhead.
Now, the club might have another chance to bring him back to Parkhead though. And this time, on a permanent basis.
Elyounoussi saw his contract with Southampton run out, meaning that he is available as a free agent this summer. Could a return to Celtic be on the cards for the Norwegian though?
As reported by the Daily Record, when speaking to Viaplay Sports, Elyounoussi was asked if he would consider a return to Celtic, and he said:
"“We’ll see.“I enjoyed my time there. I didn’t get much time to play with the fans, it was mostly without fans. I enjoyed my time there and you never know.”"
Elyounoussi gives direct reply to Celtic return question
It would be interesting to see if Celtic would consider a move for Elyounoussi this summer. He is certainly a very decent player and it feels like he is underrated by a large portion of the club’s fanbase, because he played his best football while the team were struggling badly.
At the end of the day though, it is hard to find players like Elyounoussi on free transfers. At 28 years of age, he is in the middle of his prime and is someone with over 50 caps for the Norwegian national team. But at the same time, do Celtic need him right now?
Jota and Daizen Maeda can both play on the left wing. And Mikey Johnston is set to make a return to the club as well, after enjoying a promising loan spell at Vitoria SC in Portugal.
Let’s see what the future holds for Elyounoussi. There might be rumours of a return to Celtic this summer but to be very honest, it feels quite unlikely.
