Celtic have not made any signings this summer till now, as the focus of the club is on appointing the new manager first, following Ange Postecoglou’s move to Tottenham Hotspur. All signs point to that man being Brendan Rodgers and to be honest, the Northern Irishman might very well be the best option available out there. It was not too long ago that he was being linked with the likes of Manchester City and Barcelona.

If or when the appointment of Rodgers is over the line, one would expect Celtic to start bringing in new players as well. The club have done a fantastic job of identifying talent over the past couple of seasons and hopefully that run will continue even after the exit of Postecoglou.

One of the players that they had been linked with in recent times is Liverpool midfielder, Leighton Clarkson. He shined on loan at Aberdeen last season.

There is some bad news for the Hoops in this regard though. As reported by Liverpool’s official website, Clarkson has completed a permanent transfer to Aberdeen.

Both Celtic and the Rangers had been linked with Clarkson in recent times. Clubs in England were believed to be keeping an eye on him as well. But he has chosen to return to Aberdeen on a permanent basis, after a successful loan spell there.

Of course, someone like Clarkson could have been a solid addition for Celtic. He is just 21 years of age and is already proven in the Scottish Premiership.

At the same time though, the links with Clarkson arose while Postecoglou was still the manager of the club. One would think that Rodgers would come with his own ideas and transfer targets, if he does indeed complete a return to Celtic Park this summer.
