An interesting game of footballing dominoes seems to be in play at the moment. Brendan Rodgers was shown the exit door by Leicester City last season, which has opened the door for him to make a return to Celtic Park this summer, after Ange Postecoglou joined Tottenham Hotspur just days after winning a treble with the Hoops.

Rumours have suggested that Rodgers is almost certain to join Celtic this summer and an official announcement has been delayed as he is finalising his backroom team. Interestingly, his long-term assistant, Chris Davies, looks set to join Postecoglou’s coaching team at Tottenham Hotspur.

That does increase the chances of John Kennedy staying on at Parkhead though. And now, in another instance of footballing coincidence, it looks like Celtic’s back up option to Rodgers is going to join Leicester City.

As tweeted out by Sky Sports Premier League, Leicester City have reached a verbal agreement with Manchester City’s Enzo Maresca to take over as manager.

Celtic’s Rodgers alternative agrees Leicester City job

Maresca is someone who is very highly rated for the job that he has done as a coach at Manchester City. And even a few days ago, he was considered as the favourite for the Celtic job.

Since then, Rodgers has become the heavy favourite to make a return to Celtic though and at this point of time, it would be a major surprise if it does not end up happening. Especially since it looks like Maresca is on his way to Leicester City.

Out of all the managers that Celtic have been linked with over the course of the past few weeks, Rodgers certainly looks like the best option available. He has the experience of managing top clubs and is a proven winner as well. Even with Leicester City, he won the FA Cup, the Community Shield and challenged for the top four in the Premier League.
