Fans continue to wait for Celtic to officially announce Brendan Rodgers as the new manager of the club. There might be a feeling of unease creeping in as well, as things drag on. There have been no suggestions that the Northern Irishman will be headed elsewhere though and it only seems to be a matter of putting his backroom team together.

Of course, nothing should be taken for granted. Celtic fans saw how the Eddie Howe saga turned out just a couple of years ago. But it would be a major surprise if Rodgers is not in the Parkhead dugout come next season.

It will not be a popular appointment amongst all the fans, due to how Rodgers brought an end to his first stint ended at Celtic. But he looks like the best option available out there.

Rodgers has managed at the highest level. He is a proven winner at Celtic Park as well, having guided the club to seven trophies including a couple of trebles. And it looks like he has big targets ahead of a return to Parkhead.

Rodgers sets massive target for Celtic return

As reported by The Mail+, Rodgers privately believes that a European final in the next five years should be Celtic’s target.

Despite of their historic successes in domestic competitions in recent years, we have seen Celtic struggle to make an impact in Europe. Hopefully, Rodgers will bring an end to their barren run on the continental stage, if he does indeed make a return to Parkhead this summer.

Incidentally, the Rangers have shown that a Scottish club can still reach an European final. They made an unexpected run to the UEFA Europa League final a couple of seasons back before losing to Eintracht Frankfurt on penalties. Celtic last made that stage two decades back.
