Brendan Rodgers left a bitter taste in the mouths of a lot of Celtic fans due to the manner of his Parkhead exit. He left in the middle of the 2018/19 campaign in order to join Leicester City in the Premier League, while the Hoops still had two trophies to play for. Unsurprisingly, that did not go down well with the support.

As a result, not many would have expected that a return to Celtic would be on the cards for Rodgers just a little over four years later. And yet, it looks like he is emerging as the favourite for the vacant Parkhead job.

Ange Postecoglou left the club just days after winning the treble. And the club will do well to find a proper replacement for him. The Australian won five trophies in two seasons with the Hoops.

At the same time though, one manager who is no stranger to winning trophies for Celtic is Rodgers. It was under his management that the Hoops were transformed into the trophy-winning machine that we know today, having won five of them in seven campaigns.

It looks like a move for the Northern Irishman is already in the workings. As tweeted out by Sky Sports News, Rodgers has held initial discussions with Celtic. And more negotiations are expected to take place this week.

Rodgers returning to Parkhead would not be a popular decision with a large section of the Celtic fans. But at the same time, it might be the best decision for the club as a whole.

He is a proven winner in Scottish football. And the most important thing for a club like Celtic is to continue winning trophies. Rodgers is the only manager that the Hoops could bring in, who would almost guarantee that.

Of course, nothing is set in stone yet. But it does look like the club are taking steps in the positive direction to bring back Rodgers.
