Celtic are in an interesting situation right now. They have been the dominant team in Scottish football for the past couple of years now. But with Ange Postecoglou leaving in order to join Tottenham Hotspur, that status is in doubt now. The Hoops need to bring in a top quality manager as soon as possible.

Over the last couple of days, Brendan Rodgers has emerged as the favourite for the Celtic job. The Northern Irish manager is without a club right now, having been shown the exit door by Leicester City not too long ago.

The appointment of Rodgers would not be a popular one amongst a lot of people. That is due to the manner in which he left Celtic the last time around, in the middle of the season, in order to join Leicester City.

At the moment though, it does feel like Rodgers is the best option available. And there is some very positive news regarding his potential appointment.

Major update as Rodgers close to accepting Celtic offer

As reported by The Scottish Sun, Dermot Desmond and Peter Lawwell are increasingly confident that Rodgers will accept the opportunity to take over the Parkhead job once again. It is believed that the Northern Irishman has been guaranteed another bumper contract plus big bonuses and major transfer resources to make sure that Celtic remain at the top.

Rodgers returning to Celtic would shake up the landscape of the Scottish game once again. He is a proven success at Parkhead and is someone who can built something very special once again.

Of course, it might not be a move that would go down well with every fan. But bringing back Rodgers could very well be the best thing for the club at this stage. Keep an eye on the situation of the Northern Irishman over the coming weeks.
