Celtic have been linked with plenty of managers over the past few days as they look to replace Ange Postecoglou, who moved to Tottenham Hotspur days after guiding the club to a domestic treble and his fifth trophy in two seasons. Thus, the Hoops have to make sure that they get this appointment right and bring in someone capable of building on the successes of the past campaigns.

Rumours have started to intensify over a possible Brendan Rodgers return lately. But, another name considered to be a frontrunner for the Parkhead job is that of Enzo Maresca.

It would be an interesting choice for sure. Maresca is currently a coach at Manchester City and is very highly rated, as the English side won the treble this season. At the same time though, he did not enjoy much success when he tried his hand at management a couple of years back.

Maresca was linked with the Celtic job in 2021 as well. He would end up in the Italian second division with Parma, and it proved to be a major failure, and he was shown the exit door less than six months later.

As tweeted out by Nicolo Schira, Maresca has received Celtic’s interest for the role of the manager. But he is waiting for a call from Premier League clubs.

Maresca’s reputation has certainly been enhanced following Manchester City’s historic season and it remains to be seen whether a Premier League team comes calling. One has to think though that Celtic would be a much better place to get his managerial career off the ground.

The Italian coach would have the chance to compete for every trophy domestically at Parkhead as well as a guaranteed place in the UEFA Champions League group stage next season. In fact, most Celtic fans would argue that he is not ready for the job yet.
