With so many rumours about the next Celtic manager, it’s perhaps slightly odd to hear news of the club negotiating with a potential new signing. Maybe it just shows the structure in place at Parkhead, where business as usual operations carry on. Following up effectively on strengthening the squad is certainly what they need, and have been doing for the past several transfer windows.
But you would have to wonder if any player signing now would want some reassurances that he would be part of the new manager’s plans, whoever that turns out to be. And likewise, have negotiations with a new boss reached the stage where he could give a thumbs up to making signings?
As reported by Nettavisen Sport, Valerenga are now negotiating with Celtic to agree details of a deal for Odin Thiago Holm, after the Glasgow club made a bid for the 20-year-old. If nothing unforeseen happens, the Norwegian could leave the club in the near future.
Celtic submit transfer bid for £2.5 million midfielder
Holm was taken off at halftime at the weekend in a 1-0 defeat for Valerenga amid suggestions that it could be his final match for the club. The transfer fee is anticipated to be around £2.5 million.
So far, like most transfer stories at this stage, there’s little in the way of confirmation. This one though does carry the now modern day signal that a deal could be close. Yes, the player has just started to follow Celtic on his official Instagram account.
If it turns out to be true then perhaps it’s a good sign in terms of the transfer window business being underway. Perhaps also indicating that a new manager appointment is getting close too. Let’s hope so.
As a player, the potential is clear to see in Holm. He has represented Norway at multiple youth levels and is a nailed-on starter for Valerenga at 20 years of age.
