Celtic’s search for their next manager continues, following Ange Postecoglou’s exit to Tottenham Hotspur. Having won five trophies in two seasons under challenging circumstances, the Australian has left behind huge boots to fill and a squad that was pretty much build by him from scratch since the summer of 2021.
Thus, it is important for Celtic to get this appointment. Across town, the Rangers will surely view this as an opportunity to make up some ground on the Hoops.
Celtic have been linked with a long list of managers in recent days. And one has to admit, that out of all of them, Brendan Rodgers might be the best one available.
The Northern Irishman already knows what it takes to succeed at Celtic, having won seven trophies with the club. Of course, if the Hoops did bring him back, it would be a controversial choice, because he had left in the middle of the season to join Leicester City the last time around.
Rodgers Celtic return looks close after new rumour
It does look like Celtic are seriously considering bringing back Rodgers. There has already been news of Michael Nicholson and Chris McKay flying to Mallorca to meet the Northern Irishman face-to-face.
And now, it looks like things might have taken another step forward. Rumours are doing the rounds on social media that Rodgers flew to London recently in order to meet with Dermot Desmond.
Thus, it looks like Rodgers is one of the leading candidates for the job. Of course, it remains to be seen whether he decides to return or not, if offered the post.
Other than Rodgers, plenty of other managers are believed to be in the running as well. But none of them have the resume that the Northern Irishman does. Not only did win trophies for Celtic but he won the FA Cup for Leicester City too and got them into Europe.
