Ange Postecoglou’s departure from Celtic has left a big void to fill for the club in the managerial hot seat. After two consecutive Scottish Premiership-winning campaigns, which produced five trophies in total, the Australian manager has decided to move on to join Tottenham Hotspur, leaving behind a bit of a mixed legacy.
Postecoglou’s run saw moments of brilliance, with trophies aplenty and an exciting style of play that enthralled supporters. However, early exits from European competitions raised questions about the team’s progress on the continental stage.
Despite the challenges, Postecoglou’s departure marks the end of an era. And Celtic now face the task of finding a new leader who can build on the foundation laid by the departing manager.
That is easier said than done. But could it be possible that they have the right man for the job already at the club?
John Kennedy claim made amid Celtic manager search
As reported by Football Scotland, while discussing Celtic’s managerial options on BBC Sportsound, Johan Mjallby said about the credentials of Kennedy for the job:
"“John knows the club inside out. He’s been there forever.“He was the under-21 coach when I was assistant to Neil Lennon. And then obviously since then assistant to Brendan, with Neil again and then Ange.“He should be in the running, if he wants the job. He’s got so much experience, he knows the club, he knows the players. If he wants to go down south to Tottenham, you just have to let him go. You can’t have a guy that’s going to be stopped. Your heart and soul needs to be in it.”"
From Brendan Rodgers to Daniel Farke, the list of potential candidates for the Celtic managerial job continues to grow, making the entire process an exciting, and at times confusing, one for the club’s fans. One can only hope that the board bring in the right man for the job, whoever that is.
If the club did decide to appoint Kennedy, it would not be a popular decision. That does not make it wrong though. Postecoglou was not a popular appointment either but turned out to be a fantastic manager, who the Hoops will struggle to replace.
In our opinion though, it is hard to see Kennedy being handed the job. Fans are expecting a big name to replace Postecoglou. On the other hand, the long-time Celtic coach has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur himself.
