Celtic are looking to bring in a new manager to replace Ange Postecoglou in the Parkhead hot seat, after the Australian decided to leave for Tottenham Hotspur days after securing a domestic treble for the Hoops. His run at the club was brilliant, producing five trophies over two seasons, while expectations were next to nothing when he arrived in the summer of 2021.

All Celtic fans can do is thank him for the job that he did and wish him the best moving forward. It is time for them to move on though.

It remains to be seen who the club end up bringing in as their next manager. One name which is quickly emerging as a leading candidate for the Parkhead job though is Manchester City coach, Enzo Maresca. And it appears that the Hoops are preparing their steps.

As reported by the Daily Record, Maresca is a candidate who Celtic want to talk to. An approach to speak to the Italian will be made after the UEFA Champions League final between Manchester City and Inter Milan.

Maresca would be a very risky appointment for Celtic, if they did decide to give the job to the Italian. There is no doubt that he is a superb coach, but he is yet to prove his mettle as a manager.

On the contrary, he has struggled in his only stint in the managerial hot seat. He did not even last six months in the Italian second division, while managing Parma. And that job did not have nearly the pressure that would come with Celtic.

Of course, it is possible that Maresca could prove everyone wrong, like Postecoglou did. But at this stage, it does feel like there are better candidates available than the inexperienced Italian coach.
