Celtic need to bring in a new manager soon. With Ange Postecoglou leaving in order to join Tottenham Hotspur this summer, the club have some big boots to fill without doubt. Thus, they must make sure that they make the right appointment. At the same time though, they cannot afford to dwell too long on the decision and let a good portion of the transfer window pass them by.

Thus, it is an interesting time to be a Celtic fan. The club have won five trophies in two seasons and yet, the future is a picture of uncertainty when you consider how vital Postecoglou was to that success.

Let’s see how things play out in the managerial search for Celtic. Interestingly though, it looks like Pep Guardiola could end up playing a part.

As reported by the Daily Record, Alan Brazil said while his talkSPORT show:

"“Do you know who is going to have a big say?“This is going to astonish you – Pep Guardiola. Pep, he will have a massive say as he and Dermot Desmond are very close. It’s Enzo Maresca, I’ve got it, on good authority.”"

Guardiola is most probably the best manager in world football right now. Thus, it would not be a surprise if Desmond looks for his thoughts about certain managers before making an appointment.

Interestingly, Celtic have been heavily linked with a move for Enzo Maresca. They were believed to be interested in him back in 2021 as well. The Manchester City coach is very highly rated but had a disastrous spell in management with Parma, failing to make a mark in the Italian second division and could not even last six months there.

Thus, Celtic must be completely sure before making a move for Maresca. The Italian is a great coach but it takes a lot more to be a good manager. At the same time, it might be worth pointing out that Postecoglou was part of the City Football Group, at Yokohama F. Marinos, before arriving in Glasgow. And we all know how that turned out.
