New favourite emerges to become next Celtic manager

Almost a dozen names have been doing the rounds of the media as potential candidates to be Ange Postecoglou’s successor in the Celtic Park hot seat, after the Australian left to join Tottenham Hotspur, days after sealing the treble. Thus, the Hoops have big boots to fill and must get this appointment right.

Celtic have been linked with a variety of names. Established managers like Brendan Rodgers and Graham Potter are rumoured to be on their radar. But the Hoops might not be afraid to go with someone outside of the box either, like they did with Postecoglou the last time around.

Over the past day, Enzo Maresca has become the bookies’ favourite to be the next Celtic manager. He is currently a coach at Manchester City.

It is not hard to see why someone like Maresca might attract Celtic, when it comes to the stylistic side of things. At the same time though, there are plenty of doubts about the Italian’s ability to deliver the goods as a manager.

There is no doubt that Maresca is a fantastic coach. But his track record as a manager, albeit short, is not an impressive one.

His only role came at Parma in the Italian second division and it proved to be a big failure. Maresca did not even last six months in the role.

As a result, if Maresca was handed the Celtic job, one has to wonder how he would deal with the pressure of winning every domestic game. There is more to management that just being a good coach.

There are plenty of other names believed to be in the running for the Parkhead job as well. One can only hope that the appointment is made quick so that the club can get on with their transfer business.
