Celtic’s biggest task right now is finding a manager who can fill the big boots left behind by Ange Postecoglou. The Australian has left Parkhead after spending two very successful seasons at the club, which saw him win five trophies. That kind of success did see Tottenham Hotspur swoop in and get a deal done quickly.

It will not be easy for Celtic to identify someone who can replace Postecoglou and his impact at the club. Several names have been linked with the Hoops in recent weeks.

On the other hand, Celtic have made an appointment. But it is in a different role, which will see a former Motherwell manager arrive at Parkhead.

As reported by the Daily Record, Steven Hammell is set to be named as Celtic’s new head of coaching. It is a newly created position and Postecoglou is believed to have been instrumental in the appointment, before he left for Tottenham Hotspur. The former Motherwell manager will be heavily involved in the coaching structure, philosophy of the club and mentoring future coaches.

It will be interesting to see how Hammell does at Celtic in the new role. Hopefully it will help improve the club throughout all the levels.

Of course, Celtic’s biggest aim right now has to be appointing the right manager for the men’s senior team. Names like Graham Potter, Brendan Rodgers, David Moyes, Slaven Bilic, Enzo Maresca, and several more have been brought up in recent days.

Someone like Rodgers would come in with almost a guarantee of success, having already dominated Scottish football once in the past. On the other hand, there is a feeling of unknown when it comes to a candidate like Maresca, who is very highly rated as a coach but has not proven his mettle as a manager yet.
