Ange Postecoglou has left Celtic to join Tottenham Hotspur. The Australian enjoyed a lot of success during his two seasons at the club, winning five trophies in total. He did so after inheriting a team that had finished trophyless and 25 points behind the Rangers in the 2020/21 campaign. That makes his achievements even more impressive and he leaves behind big boots to fill.

Of course, Celtic will need to bring in a top manager to replace Postecoglou. And the club have been linked with a wide variety of names.

There are a lot of risks involved with many of the rumoured candidates. But one man who would be as close to a guaranteed success as is possible to get is Brendan Rodgers.

Rodgers is without a club right now, having been shown the exit door by Leicester City earlier on in the campaign. The Northern Irishman remains a highly rated manager though and a former Celtic player and coach, has tipped him to make a return to Parkhead.

Rodgers tipped to make Celtic return as manager

As reported by BBC, John Collins told the BBC’s Scottish football podcast:

"“I think it would have to be Brenden Rodgers.“He’s proved he can manage Celtic to success – he has delivered trophies and entertaining football. He’s excellent with the media.“The disappointing thing for the Celtic fans was the way he left, but he’s the least risk of hiring a manager because he has been there, seen it, done it. He knows the club inside out and what the demands are as Celtic manager.“Anybody else would be a risk because they haven’t sat in the Celtic dugout before, haven’t won trophies with the club before, don’t really know Scottish football.“I think it would be a good appointment. No risk, he’s a proven top-quality manager and wherever he’s been, he’s delivered.”"

Unlike the other managers who have been linked with the Celtic job in recent days. Rodgers is someone who has already proven himself in the Scottish game and at Parkhead as well. He won seven trophies during his time at the club before moving to Leicester City in early 2019.

Of course, the manner of his exit does make things complicated. Rodgers left in the middle of the campaign, with two trophies left to play for, which left a bitter taste in the mouths of a lot of fans.

So, if Rodgers did return, it would be interesting to see how the fans react. There’s no better way to get them on your side than winning trophies though and the Northern Irish manager has proven that he can do that.
