Celtic find themselves in need of a new manager much sooner than they would have hoped. Ange Postecoglou did a remarkable job for the Hoops, winning five trophies in two seasons. But now, he has made the jump to the Premier League by joining Tottenham Hotspur. We can only wish him the best for the future.

The club will need to bring in a top quality manager to fill the boots of Postecoglou though. And this is an important appointment for sure, as they look to continue their dominance over Scottish football.

They have been linked with plenty of names in recent times. If the rumours are anything to go by though, it looks like Enzo Maresca is near the top of their managerial wishlist.

Maresca is currently a coach at Manchester City. And one of Pep Guardiola’s recent claims has drawn the interest of Celtic fans.

As reported by Glasgow Times, Guardiola said while talking about Postecoglou:

"“Another exceptional manager is coming.“I was lucky to meet him in Tokyo years ago when he was manager for Yokohama – one of our clubs in the City Football Group.“It was an interesting chat and I have a good relationship with the owner for Celtic Glasgow.”"

That relationship could help Celtic, if they do indeed identify Maresca as the right man for the Parkhead job. Of course, the two clubs have had a lot of interactions and been involved in a number of deals over the years.

At the same time though, there is quite a bit of risk when it comes to handing the job to someone like Maresca. He might be a very highly rated coach, but he is yet to prove himself as a manager. On the contrary, his spell at Parma was a disaster. He did not even last half a season in the Italian second division.

Do Celtic need to take that risk? With guaranteed Champions League group stage football on offer, they should have no problem attracting a proven manager to Glasgow this summer.
